Product Review: Kreisen 37" LCD TV - Model KR-370T

About.com Rating fourhalf out of Five

The Bottom Line

Kreisen may not yet be a household name, but it uses big-name technology to produce an excellent TV. The KR-370T uses a LG Philips LCD flat panel to display resolutions up to 1080i (external HD tuner required). It has excellent picture quality. At 37 inches, it's large enough for a living room, yet small enough for the master bedroom. There weren't many bad features, and of the ones I noticed - none affected the picture, which is the most important aspect of a television.
Pros
  • Excellent picture quality - WXGA LCD panel built by LG Philips
  • Has a 3D digital comb filter and good contrast ratio (1200:1).
  • Supports PAL, SECAM, and HD signals with proper equipment
  • Sharpness good on video game play and DVD playback
  • Has a master On/Off override switch under front panel
Cons
  • Table stand does not tilt horizontally or vertically
  • No CableCard slot or built-in ATSC tuner
  • No A/V connections on side or front panel
  • Minimal ghosting on text crawls

Guide Review - Product Review: Kreisen 37" LCD TV - Model KR-370T

The KR-370T is a well-designed LCD flat panel television capable of displaying signals up to 1080i. The LCD panel made by LG Philips performed like a champion when displaying digital signals. The only issue was a minimal ghosting effect on text crawls.

The 3D digital comb filter is a nice feature because it provides the best picture possible through RF and composite inputs. This is an important inclusion because most people will probably use one of those connections to display cable/satellite.

The sharpness of colors and edges was excellent when watching standard digital cable. I watched several DVDs and played XBOX in HD, and was impressed with the detail. The KR-370T has a response time of 25m/s. I didn't noticed any complications with fast-moving images except for the text crawl ghosting. The picture was large enough to watch from 12' away, and it handled well in low/bright light environments.

I liked the easy-to-read text listing all connections on the back panel, the remote control and matching controls under the front panel.

I didn't like the fixed tabletop stand that didn't allow horizontal/vertical adjustment. There weren't inputs on the front/side, and the TV always started on channel 9. It didn't have an easy-select button for changing input types. Instead, you had to scroll through all inputs until reaching the input of choice.

Final Word: This is one dandy TV that anyone wanting top-dollar quality at a bargain would be happy to own.
