PowerSpec 30" Wide-Screen LCD-TV

TV Meets PC

AUDIO

Overall, the audio was pretty nice for a television with one slight issue. The PowerSpec features built-in 10W dual channel speakers with six stereo equalizer modes – five preset and one user. There is a 1/8” headphone jack for private listening, and a 1/8” subwoofer input. While I thought the sound was good for a television, I didn’t like that I couldn’t raise or lower the audio in increments of one. Here’s an explanation:

Typically, televisions display audio levels on-screen with power bars and/or a numeric meter. Audio is raised or lowered one level at a time. The PowerSpec’s audio levels are displayed on the bottom of the screen with a meter consisting of about 30 non-numeric bars. I was only able to adjust the audio in increments of three bars. While not an issue for normal viewing, it was when trying to tune the audio to a minimal level for watching in bed while someone tries to fall asleep. My only option was to have three bars or zero bars with zero being muted and three being loud enough to wake someone up. This might be where owning a set of wireless headphones might be handy to take advantage of the televisions ability to shut off the main speakers.

WARRANTY

The PowerSpec 30" Wide-Screen LCD-TV comes with a one year warranty including parts and labor, but verify all details with your sales person before purchasing.

FINAL OPINION

After a week with this television, my final opinion is good. The positive definitely outweighs the negative, especially when considering price versus performance. While this television does have limitations, it’s hard to argue against the PowerSpec when looking at other models within the same category that cost $2000+. With a final purchase price of $999 after a $200 mail-in rebate, this television is good to own for any person or family looking for a space-saving better-than-average flat panel LCD display at a basement price. I wouldn’t recommend this television to someone wanting a high performance monitor to play Playstation or XBOX on, but that doesn’t detract from its overall performance. This is just a good no frills LCD screen that is large enough for the living room yet small enough for the bedroom.
