The 46D1 performed up to expectations on the HQV Benchmark Test. The biggest issue with this panel is the lack of a noise reduction system. This is an important ingredient in how a panel will display standard definition cable and satellite signals. It doesn’t have anything to do with DVD or high definition display.

All of that considered, I didn’t really notice any noise issues with this panel when watching satellite. The look was a bit soft but that can be adjusted through the panels menu system.

There was slight ghosting on the motion adaptive noise reduction test. Again, this is directly related to the lack of a noise reduction system in this television. But, it wasn’t really noticeable in the everyday television watching. In other words, you would need to scrutinize the picture to see any ghosting.

The panel was strong in display of diagonal lines and didn’t show much of an issue with ‘jaggies’, which is a way to describe stair-stepping on diagonal lines. The only reason I gave the ‘Jaggies Pattern 2’ a 3 out of 5 score is because there was a slight jaggie present on the corners of the test pattern. This was extremely minor.

The Bottom Line

The brass at Winbook was really talking up this television in the month before I got my review unit. I can only say that it lived up to the hype, especially with DVD, HD and video game images. I would also like to point out that this panel had a good display of standard definition signals, which is equivalent to non-HD digital cable and satellite.

The only issue I noticed regarding the picture was with picture noise and minor ghosting on the HQV test. These issues were minor. My biggest concern was the image from my DVD player's screen-saver staying on the screen for a couple of seconds after it was supposed to leave the screen.

The central opinion from other analysts that I read reviews from while researching Winbook’s 46D1 was that this television has a surprisingly good picture. I concur.

Should you think about buying this television, be sure to check out Winbook’s online store for a rebate. This product has had a $100 rebate in the past.

The bottom line is that the 46D1 has key features you want in a television, like HDMI with HDCP, a built-in digital tuner, good contrast ratio, large screen size, USB input for installing new drivers, good scores on the HQV Benchmark Test, etc. What more could you ask for when considering a TV of this size at this price – 46” for $1399.
