Liquid Crystal on Silicon

by Matthew Torres
for About.com

Definition: Liquid Crystal on Silicon is the newest technology for projection TV’s. LCOS televisions come in two styles, one-chip and three-chip. The chips act much like digital video cameras. In one-chip models, red, green, and blue colors are produced by one chip allocating space for red, blue, and green while three-chip models use one chip for red, one chip for green, and one chip for blue. LCOS rear projection televisions are thin and not at risk for burn-in.
