This is a limited edition so each model is slightly more expensive than their non-limited cousins. One of the features that sets it apart is AQUOS Net.
AQUOS Net is a feature only found on the SE94 series. It allows you to download content and get support from the web. It also uses Sharp's latest video processor.
All specifications quoted in this article are courtesy of Sharp Electronics.
Key Specifications:
- 1080p with 27,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio
- 120hz refresh rate
- Five 1080p compatible inputs - 3 HDMI, 2 component
- 4ms response time
- Detachable speakers
The SE94 series also has a 5-wavelength backlight system. Sharp says that is will provide "deeper, more vibrant reds and truer greens than previously possible."
Sharp says the SE94 series is 28% thinner and 9% lighter than other Sharp flat panels.
What I Like:
- Sharp uses their latest video processor to display images. It is a 120hz panel so motion will be displayed significantly better than 60hz rivals.
- Five 1080p inputs should be plenty for anyone. It also has virtually any input type you'd need on a TV.
- The slim-line' design is cool. Being lighter and thinner should help wall mounting.
- I like the attempt at adding web interactivity to the unit. I'm not sure how often you'd visit their 'customized' web environment but if online support is necessary through the TV itself then this is the TV for you.
- 15x15 watt speakers are better than 10x10.
What I Don't Like:
- If the AQUOS Net technology technology is the future for Sharp panels then why didn't they use it to beef up their entire LCD line. Some people might not want to spend $2500+ for a TV but they would like the online functionality of the SE94 series.
- Not offering this panel in a smaller size - 46" is the smallest. I'd like to see a 32" model.
- This isn't an Energy Star panel.
Final Thoughts:
I discovered while reviewing prices of other Sharp 120hz LCD HDTVs that the SE94 series was competitively priced against them. If the SE94 falls within your price range then you might want to take a look at it considering the added online capability.
It's important to note that Sharp has two other 120hz LCD lines that are comparable in quality and price only without the AQUOS Net feature.
