The Loc8tor is a personal homing device that according to the manufacturer, "Tracks Items From Up to 600 ft Away to Within One Inch."

How does it do it and what does it do?

According to the manufacturer, Loc8tor uses "award winning patent pending technology that helps find important possessions and can even stop them from getting lost in the first place."

The Loc8tor was an 'Innovations 2006 Awards Honoree' at the 2006 CES in the Personal Electronics category. At the time of this profile on Loc8tor.com, the Loc8tor Pack cost $99.99 and the Loc8tor Plus pack sold for $169.99.

Uses for Audio-Video Components: The Loc8tor website says that this product is good for keeping track of your keys, mobile phone, valuables, pets, etc. When I consinder how this product could be implemented within the audio-video environment, I think no further than the remote control.

The remote control is a device that has found its way into odd locations, like couch cushions, bathroom counters, etc. This is because many of us carry the remote when wandering about.

I have a bad habit of taking the remote into various rooms while watching football only to go into a panic attack when I can't find it. I imagine the Loc8tor could help me there.

How big is it? How does it work?: The Loc8tor set consists of handheld device that is about the size of a small remote control and tags that are about length of a paperclip.

The tags transmit and receive a signal. The handheld device receives those signals and pinpoints the location of the tag. The handheld device used audio, video and vibrations to alert you of the tag's whereabouts.

An interesting feature on some Loc8tor's is an alert function. Essentially, the device will sound an alarm when your tag goes outside of a predetermined circle. This could be a good function for monitoring a television or other high cost devices when company is over.
