It seems fitting on this United States Open Golf Championship weekend to compare contrast ratio to golf. So, here it goes:
TV contrast ratio is to the TV world what the guy who hits the ball 400 yards is to golf. Does it really matter if you can the ball farther if you don't know where it's going?

Best advice is near the end, about comparing contrast ratios within the same brand only. Different manufacturers definitely have their own opinions when it comes to their contrast figures. It helps to narrow down the field, then look at contrast.
