The NFL Universal Remote Control by Excalibur is probably a product that belongs in the novelty category along with a glow-in-the-dark golf ball. That doesn't matter to me, though, because it's a fun item. I'd definitely be excited if someone gave me a remote control with a Dallas Cowboys logo on it...should one exist.
Even if I didn't use it to control the TV, I could put it on a shelf in my home office next to other sports merchandise I've collected throughout the years.
According to NFL Shop.com, the remote control has the ability to control a TV, VCR, DVD player, cable/satellite receiver, and one auxiliary channel. It's foam-padded. Models are available in either the NFL logo or one of the team listed below:
- Chicago Bears
- Denver Broncos
- Green Bay Packers
- Indianapolis Colts
- New England Patriots
- New York Giants
- New York Jets
- Oakland Raiders
- Philadelphia Eagles
- Pittsburgh Steelers
- San Diego Chargers
- Seattle Seahawks
- Washington Redskins
My Thoughts: I saw the NFL universal remote control pictured above at a CVS Pharmacy in my area. It's soft. The foam inside it is feels airy - like a baby's toy. It's not completely soft though as there is a remote control sewed inside the ball. The cover feels like it's made out of synthetic leather, like a bean bag chair.
The buttons are marked with a paint-like substance on the skin of the football. The buttons aren't raised but you can feel them when squeezing the remote or pressing down over each button. This should make it possible to perform no-look channel surfing.
The remote fit in my hand nicely and while holding it I could see the allure of holding a football-shaped remote control. It's soft and squeezable, which could help ease late-season tension while watching a nip and tuck game late in the fourth quarter.
