Need to Recycle Your Old TV?

Wednesday February 18, 2009
Best Buy has an interesting electronics recycling program called Greener Together. What makes it interesting is that it's free...sort of. You have to pay a $10 fee to recycle a TV but in return you get a $10 gift card for future Best Buy purchases.

Most other consumer electronics items are recycled free of charge. The $10 fee for recycling TVs is quite savvy because it keeps the $10 you spent on recycling in Best Buy's pockets but someone has to pay for the recycling. I look at it as investing $10 into a future purchase that I would've made regardless.

Besides, it's a better alternative to tossing it in an old field or creek bed. Now, it's up to Best Buy to ensure our trust in them is rewarded with proper and responsible disposal of the electronics.
