Panasonic announces recycling program

Sunday November 2, 2008
Panasonic announced a nationwide recycling program that will allow consumers to recycle at no cost (free) “Panasonic branded TVs and other consumer electronics.” (read Panasonic press release)

The program began on November 1, 2008. You can learn more about it by visiting www.mrmrecycling.com. (visit site)

My thoughts: The program involves 10 states and 160 recycling drop-off areas. Panasonic says it will expand to include all 50 states within three years. The expansion will also establish hundreds more drop-off sites.

One of my biggest concerns with the digital transition is the ‘what if ‘ we experience a mass dumping of analog TVs. How that will impact the environment?

The city I live in had a city-wide ‘big item’ trash day. This is where people throw away old refrigerators, ovens, etc. I drove down my street the day of the trash day and saw an analog TV face down in the street.

I was like “so, it begins.” Kudos to Panasonic for starting this program before these analog TVs hit the landfills.
