TV Technology reported on its Web site that Radio Shack "anounced its intention to participate fully in the government’s Digital Converter Box Coupon program of nearly $1.5 billion in $40 coupons for the boxes, which are expected to cost about $60 to $80 without the coupon."

This announcement comes on the heels of a public demonstration at National Telecommunication and Information Administration (NTIA) DTV Transition Expo at Commerce Department headquarters where "manufacturers connected the new boxes to old TVs and showed the results," according to TV Technology news.

The coupon program begins January 1, 2008. The digital transition goes into effect February 19, 2009.
