The NFL Goes HD

Thursday August 9, 2007
NFL.com reports that the National Football League will use high definition equipment for their instant replay system. According to NFL.com, the NFL cites poor picture quality as a reason for making the move.

"As more people were getting high definition TV at home, they actually had a better view than the referee charged with making the decision," Dean Blandino, the NFL's director of instant replay, said to NFL.com.

According to NFL.com, referees will watch HD replays on 26" televisions.

My Thoughts: This is a big win for high definition television awareness. We'll probably hear that the referees are watching the replay in HD every time a coach challenges a call. This is a good thing for football and consumer awareness. My only question is "which manufacturer will be the panel of choice by the NFL?"
