FiOS TV Expands in New York
According to an online press release, PRNewswire says "Verizon is now taking orders for FiOS TV in parts of the Westchester County communities of Mount Vernon and Mount Pleasant, the Rockland County village of Spring Valley and the Long Island village of Old Field."
Monica Azare, Verizon senior vice president for New York and Connecticut, said through the release, "Customers who liked what FiOS did for their Internet connection will love what it does for their TV. We've harnessed the speed and capacity of fiber- based broadband with the power of broadcast to create a revolutionary, new entertainment experience."
My Thoughts: Verizon is a step ahead of other wireless carriers in the quest to compete against cable and satellite companies. The question to me is whether or not Internet Protocol Television service, like FiOS, is a better deal for the consumer. The bottom line, to me, is cost and what you get for your money.
Tomorrow, I will publish a short analysis of estimated monthly costs associated with various service providers. While this won't apply to every market it will give a comparison of your service versus others in the USA.

I live in Staten Island, N.Y. After 9/11 I became a HD DVR Direct TV subscriber for 3 years. Afterwards I switched over to DVR-HD at Time Warner Cable. Today, July 29, 2008 I switched to DVR HD Verizon FIOS. One of my concerns is that when you pause for a period of time FIOS does not have a screen saver mode and when using the DVR Guide it is not easy to navigate as Time Warner.
