Circuit City Offers 24-month, Zero Interest Financing

Tuesday September 20, 2005
Major electronics retailer Circuit City is in the midst of a pretty good sale. Through September 24, 2005, all digital televisions priced $499 and up are available for a 24-month, zero interest financing with approved credit. In addition, most digital televisions will be up to $500 off the sticker price. According to the Circuit City Web site, this sale is good for in-store and online purchases. If a balance remains on the account at the end of the 24-month no interest period, the purchaser will be charged for all interest accrued from the date of purchase.

My Thoughts: This is actually a good sale for anyone in the immediate market for a digital television, especially if you plan on paying off the debt within a 24-month period. Looking at this sale makes me consider buying a television knowing I would have two years to pay off the loan. Then I read the fine print, and remember the days of being burned by offers such as this - if you have a minimal balance at the end of the promotion period you will be charged the full interest of the loan. That is something to think about as interest for two years on a $2500 loan will most likely be over $300.

Something To Think About: Companies like Sears also have similar no interest offers on a daily basis. The bonus with Sears is that they don't charge you for all interest accrued if carrying a balance over from the promotion period. Their zero interest is really zero interest with no fine print - unless you consider paying with a Sears credit card fine print.
