National Association of Broadcasters Distributes Handheld TVs

Thursday September 15, 2005
This story is over a week old, but it is important to recognize organizations that are doing what they can to help the Hurricane Katrina relief effort.

The National Association of Broadcasters worked with The Salvation Army and Red Cross to put over 1,300 portable 5" analog television sets in the hands of local public safety officials in the Gulf Coast region. The NAB bought the sets from GPX, a company based in St. Louis, MO. The Louisiana and Mississippi Association of Broadcasters also helped with the effort.

NAB President Eddie Fritts said, "We're proud to make these television sets available to our first responder friends along the Gulf Coast. In this time of crisis, it is critical that broadcasters make every effort to keep both the first responder community and local citizens up to date with the most accurate information regarding hurricane relief."

The NAB also helped residents in the Gulf Coast region by distributing 10,000 battery-powered radios. The NAB also donated $1 million to the relief effort.
