MTV To Launch New Channel

Tuesday June 28, 2005
On Thursday, the television viewing landscape will be shaken as MTV launches LOGO, a 24-hour entertainment channel targeted toward gay people. Initially, LOGO will be available in about 10-million US homes in the top 22 markets. Already, it has gained advertising support from companies like Motorola, Suburu, and Orbitz.

Given the success of shows like Will & Grace and Queer Eye For The Straight Guy, MTV and Viacom are hoping to capitalize on an untapped market many believe is financially strong and growing. With 24-hours of entertainment geared toward gay people, they will do just that. Not only will it give gay people an outlet, it will undoubtedly provide heterosexuals with an opportunity to learn more about homosexuals, and possibly be a catalyst for open-dialogue on gay issues, either on Capitol Hill or by the water cooler at work.
