Q & A: Children's Television Programming

Sunday April 3, 2005
"I hope you can answer a question my daughter and I have. We have noticed on children's Saturday morning programming an EI on the screen. Can you tell me what it means? If not, can you direct me to a site that can?"

EI stands for "Educational and Informational" programming. It is a result of the Children's Television Act of 1990, which mandates broadcast stations to program at least three hours of educational programming a week. Since the programming is aimed toward children, EI is often seen on Saturday mornings. To learn more about policies regarding children's programming please click here or on the title above to visit the Federal Communication Commission's website for children's educational television.
